Mediation

What Is Mediation?

MediationWhen land use negotiations heat up, or communication breaks down, people often turn to the legal system to force a decision. This is costly, and family relationships suffer. Mediation strives for mutual gains for all parties, which is important for families who have ongoing relationships. Although I cannot draw up legal agreements, I can provide a process where specific issues are addressed. I hold certificates in both narrative mediation and land use mediation.

How Does It Work?

I arrange a private meeting with the people in conflict, and follow a structured process where each person is given the opportunity to express his or her needs and concerns. Together, we take a closer look at the issues at hand, open up lines of communication, and work towards an agreement. Narrative mediation focuses on the conflict as it impacts the relationship. Land use mediation looks at specific property-related issues.

If reaching an agreement is not possible, we focus on clarifying each other’s position to gain a better understanding for future negotiations.
